Description
Named for its cold tolerance as far north as USDA Zone 6b and its beautiful winter flowers, ‘Winter’s Interlude’ is a hybrid Camellia that produces an abundance of gorgeous, semi-double peony form flowers with twelve clear-pink petals surrounding a dense cushion of mixed creamy white and pink petaloids at the center. The flowers appear October into December providing unrivaled winter interest when there’s not much else blooming in the garden. The semi-glossy, deep green foliage provides a perfect backdrop for the abundance of delightful flowers which are excellent for cutting and displaying in your favorite vase.
Landscape & Garden Uses
A lower growing Camellia with a mounded to slightly spreading habit of growth to about 5 feet tall and 6 to 7 feet wide, Winter’s Star is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as hedge or background plant in landscape borders and is especially nice as an accent or espalier (trained to grow flat against a wall) in home foundation plantings. A fine addition to winter gardens, pink theme gardens, camellia gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland borders. Also suitable for growing in containers that can be brought indoors where this plant isn’t reliably winter hardy above USDA Zone 6b. Find Your Zone
Suggested Spacing: 5 feet apart for solid hedge; 12 feet or more apart for space between plants
Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 6b, where this Camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine.

Have planted a number of similar varieties over the years, and they’ve been doing well. I needed a larger growing variety, and found this one on line. It arrived in perfect condition and immediately the buds leafed out. Fingers crossed it will be as hardy as my others. If it isn’t, I’ll update this review.————————————We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
While I am extremely pleased with the nine Camellias I ordered (I finally planted them yesterday when the weather turned favorable), what impressed me most was the service I received from Wilson Bros. I wanted to create a screen ASAP and Googled how large the plant that comes in a 3-gallon pot is. It said “1 – 3 feet”. I called the nursery and spoke with a nice woman there, and explained I wanted to see how big the plants were going to be. I told her I needed the tallest ones possible, and I wanted the light pink. I also needed nine, so ideally they would all be the same. She proceeded to send me photos and heights, which she measured, of all my choices in pink. This made my decision easy. I ordered them online, received them very promptly, and they were packaged amazingly – the best I have ever received, and I have ordered many plants online. The plants are all very healthy-looking. I delayed planting due to the extreme weather we were having but got them in the ground yesterday. I highly recommend Wilson Bros.——————————————————–We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! We have awesome employees!! Have a happy New Year! This was my second purchase from Wilson Bros.. Was so happy to find so many cold hardy camellias from one source. So I tested them out with my first order of one camellia. It arrived perfectly packed and beautiful with lots of buds! After that, I ordered many more varieties and have to say they were all of exceptionally good quality. Most had buds so my yard will have lots more color this winter and spring. Can’t wait to see all of them bloom. Customer service is excellent as well. Brent was very helpful answering all my questions. 5 stars on both the product and customer service. Will be buying much more from this excellent company in the future. Only one complaint: you have too many camellias to choose from…haha. Thanks! ————————– WBG Reply: Hi Sherri – Wow!…thanks so much for all your compliments and for taking the time to provide all your reviews on the camellias you purchased from us.
