We purchased this tree as part of a 60th Anniversary gift. The tree arrived promptly, packed very well and was in good condition. We followed the recommended steps to plant and although it’s only been a couple weeks, it is looking healthy. New to South Carolina, I attended a Clemson Gardening seminar where they recommended the native American Fringe Tree (not the Chinese variety) as it supports native pollinators and birds. I ordered in mid=march and it arrived quickly, just in time for a cold snap! The tree was completely dormant as expected. I contacted Wilson Bros customer service via email, asking for instructions on how to best store it until the weather improved so I could plant – they responded within 24 hours with instructions. After just over a week protected in my garage – I planted it and now almost 4 weeks later – it is leafing out and looks fantastic. I planted it in augmented clay soil, and on a hill. The trees arrived in excellent condition. We had to heel in the trees do to the unexpected cold spell. We dug the holes but after the heavy rain this past Friday, one of the holes is still filled with water (dealing with heavy clay soil). We have the compost and topsoil to amend the holes and will plant trees as soon as the weather permits. We are in zone 7a.. Plan to follow once trees are established.—————————————————-Keep us posted. Shipping was great, packing was great, but I expected more than a 1 1/2 foot tree for the price……………..just a little disappointed !!!!!

Honestly and truly an amazing experience working with Wilson Bros. I ordered a multi-stem Fringe tree last month and planted it in my backyard on the North side of the house where we might see it from the deck as it grows. I will be having several dead/shady branches removed from nearby post oaks to ensure plenty of sunlight.
The plant arrived in a masterly engineered box and the roots on this plant were vibrant with life. Not a twig was bent or broken. I am presently doing some research for a specimen shrub for our front yard on the South side of the house and will re-order with Wilson Bros without a doubt.

Bought 3 of these in 3-gal pots mid-March. Two arrived together, traditional container-grown. They blossomed heavily and earlier than I expected, with excellent leaf and twig growth already. The other was the first to arrive and fell out of the pot as essentially a bare-root plant packed in mulch. One benefit, however, was that I was able to cut a linking root in it, ending with 2 plants of nearly-equal size. Both are just beginning to leaf now, at the expected time really, no blossoms yet. A sucker or second germinated seedling also fell, unattached, out of one of the trade containers while I loosened the root ball. I planted it separately; it’s alive, though sparsely leafed and blossomed, So I could end up with 5 trees, 3-4 biologically distinct. Because of this I didn’t deduct a star for the tree in mulch.————————————Thanks for 5 Stars, but anytime you have a problem, please contact Customer Service, we can usually resolve just about any issue you may have. I grew this tree in NC and loved it so much I bought two when I moved here to NJ. The plants were not delivered when they were promised from Fed EX. (Not Surprised) When they came the box was crushed and one of the plants had the stems broke. Wilson Bros. quickly gave me several options to make good on this and I was totally satisfied. The shipping carton Wilson Bros. use is very sturdy and does protect the plants. Both trees were planted using the guide lines that WB provides for all their plants. I am hoping the plant that broke during shipment makes it thru the winter. Very satisfied with my purchase at this point and hope that I will see my trees thrive next spring. I do recommend purchasing plants from WB. I am only giving four stars as they can only use Fed Ex for delivery and to me that is a hit and miss situation as I have nothing good to say about Fed Ex. 4 stars are also because I feel their prices are high, However, you have a good selection on plants that cannot be found elsewhere.————————————————So sorry for the carrier problem. I am in the horticulture field on Cape Cod MA. The Fringe tree i recieved is extremely healthy, a little smaller than I expected. However, this plant is a stud. I also purchased two Asimina triloba trees from these dudes a month ago or so and they are doing amazingly well. Their shipping is 5 star. I have wanted a couple fringe trees for a long time. They shipped quickly and were packed amazingly well. Mr. Grancy seems to be loving his new home! He was planted 3 weeks ago and already has new growth. He’s tolerated the highly variable New England weather very well…even the snow flakes we had the day after we planted him! I look forward to him growing and providing dappled shade for both the back of the house as well as part of the patio.
Before I purchased this tree, I had quick and thorough response to my questions about the viability of this tree in big winter winds and salt tolerance (we live near the ocean in northeast Massachusetts).

Very impressed with shipping and packaging. Plant arrived with damp paper matting to hold soil in place and plastic film over the pot to keep moist. Not one leaf was damaged. Had just unpacked an order from a different vendor — 5 plants stacked in a long box, pots dried out, dirt spilled everywhere and many broken branches. You get what you pay for. After searching the internet for the perfect small/medium tree for our small front yard in town we picked the Grancy Greybeard since we wanted something different than all the Japanese Maples in our area. We received our tree in a couple days time and it was in wonderful shape! Full of leaves and the potting soil was moist. It was planted right away and is doing great! We were very pleased with the way our Fringe tree was processed. Item was shipped in the date planned and arrived a few days later in excellent condition. Packaging was superb. Very strong box multi-layered box with a stationary divider stapler above the pot around the trunk to keep it from shifting. Branches had just enough space to keep from moving around without being overly compressed. Pot was wrapped in plastic to retain moisture while shipping without leaking. Great job. I am excited to see my tree bloom and grow. I was nervous as to whether I would receive a nice and healthy tree. I kept my fingers crossed for the first month waiting to see new leaves, a sign from my tree that it is happy and healthy. It is now showing signs of new leaves!!!. The fringe tree are nice sized, about 42″ tall. I was concerned about ordering plants during the hottest month of the year but they arrived in perfect condition. My order was processed and delivered in only a few days. The packaging was amazing! The dirt remained in the pots and the two plants didn’t pulverize each other. Not a leaf was out of place, like I picked it up from the nursery myself. I was pleasantly surprised at the size and quality of the Graybeard White Fringe Tree that I received, the “only” issue was what Fed Express did to the box, it looked pretty bad but the tree survived their abuse with only one bent branch. If it wasn’t for the good packaging I think it would have been worse. I did contact Wilson’s just to let them know how it was handled by Fed Express and the bent branch, I received a quick response and they were concerned if I was happy with the tree. I taped up the bent branch and it appears to be doing fine, it’s been a month and it still looks great. I don’t usually order plants by mail unless I’m looking for something not carried in my local garden centers, I am very pleased with Wilson Bros and will return if I’m looking for another unusual find. I think with the huge increase in online shopping the carriers are rushing more than normal to deliver all the packages and are hiring less-experienced subcontractors to do deliveries. As a result, even though it’s still a minimal percentage, we’ve noticed that more packages are being handled improperly, especially boxes 3 feet or more in length that we use to ship our larger plants and trees. My niece has a White Fringe tree in her bed next to the house. It was so beautiful this spring. I decided I wanted one. The Fringe Trees came in quickly. They were in good shape through no fault of the carrier! Thank goodness they were well packed! In fact, one of the trees had an empty branch and it has begun to spread out! I know I am going to enjoy them!!

I tried the bare root method and had bad results with the same amount of work. These plants are not only thriving, they are already blooming! Packaging was excellent for, what has to be, a challenge to ship. Thanks, Wilson Bros.

We love the plant, it came in excellent condition. It has just finished blooming and was beautiful. I’m sure as it gets larger it will be spectacular.
