Description

The Funky Flow Mahonia is an evergreen flowering shrub providing dazzling flower color and lush texture in the landscape. It’s super easy to grow, even in the shade, and flowers during winter, when there’s not much else blooming in the landscape. Through winter, brilliant neon-yellow flowers are displayed in clustered sprays of candle-like spikes at the ends of branches. Winter will never be dull in the garden with Funky Flow around! Forming a very natural and lush looking upright mound 3 to 4 feet tall and equally as wide, the plant is clothed in handsome dark to medium green bamboo-like leaves arranged like leaflets on fern-like fronds. We love Mahonia in shady to partially shaded landscape borders, home foundation plantings and around patios and other outdoor sitting and living spaces. You might be happy to know that deer turn their nose up to Mahonia.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing to around 3 to 4 feet tall and equally as wide, Funky Flow Mahonia is ideal for use as a specimen in small garden spaces and containers or in groupings or as a natural hedge in shady landscape borders, home foundation plantings and woodland settings. A fine addition to shade gardens, yellow theme gardens, Asian theme gardens and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing: 3 feet apart for hedges

Growing Preferences

Funky Flow Mahonia is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and shade to part shade. Morning sun with afternoon shade is okay, but avoid direct afternoon sun. That said, the plant breeder says it will tolerate full sun. Very easy to maintain requiring little or no pruning.
