Description
Highly ornamental, Algerian Ivy is a slow to moderate growing large-leafed evergreen vine that trails, climbs, and cascades. The vines root as they trail along the ground making it an excellent choice for erosion control on embankments and slopes. It clings to wood, brick and other surfaces which makes it an excellent choice for creating a “live wall.” Its large (6″) handsome, glossy, rich green leaves are perfect for spilling over walls and will add the finishing touch to just about any container garden.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Algerian Ivy is a trailing plant that is ideal for use as a groundcover in landscape borders and on embankments and slopes for erosion control. Also nice spilling over walls. It is also great for outdoor container gardens and hanging baskets or as an indoor houseplant.
Caution: Ivy plants can be invasive so make sure to control their spread when growing near woodland areas.
Suggested Spacing: 18 to 24 inches for mass plantings

Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 7a, where this Ivy plant is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Variegated Algerian Ivy is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average to low fertility and shade or part shade. Avoid direct afternoon sun. Afternoon filtered sun is okay. Established plantings are very drought tolerant. Constantly soggy soils or standing water is problematic.
Caution: Ivy plants can be invasive so make sure to control their spread when growing near woodland areas.

Because I couldn’t find algerian ivy to replace 35 year old ivy along the back of my house at any of my hometown nurseries, I, of course, went to the internet. I felt a little unsure about how 18 four inch pots of ivy would do on a long trip. I was so pleased to see how healthy each one of the plants was and, now that they’ve been in the ground for a couple of weeks, they are thriving. Thank you. I would definitely order from Wilson Bros. again. ————————— WBG Reply: Hi Beth – Thanks so much for your review of the Algerian Ivy and we hope you enjoy them for years to come. I have had trouble finding these in my area so I decided to order online. I have never ordered plants online and di not know what to expect. Wilson Bros came though for me very well. The plants were packed extremely well and were still wet upon arrival. They look very healthy and are doing well in my yard.
